Freelance Art Specialist & Project Manager

I graduated in Art History at University College London (UCL) and began my career working in commercial galleries in London specialising in Modern British and Contemporary art.  I went on to work for the Museum & Galleries Commission and in the process develop my knowledge of public sector arts and museum provision in the UK, liaising with equivalent organisations internationally.  After two years I studied for a postgraduate diploma in Museums Studies at Manchester University and then was appointed as Collections Development Curator and Officer at the Scottish Arts Council.  I was there for 12 years as Collections Curator, then as the Visual Arts Officer responsible for managing the artists’ grants and residences, and as a Manager for Sales and Collections Development.  For the last 10 years I have been freelance, working with artists, curators, agencies, galleries and museums, universities and Art Schools.  I’ve managed projects for BBC Scotland, and National Health Service (see below).   From 2010 to 2016 I was Director of Turning Point West Midlands, hosted by Birmingham City University, setting up a new fine art graduate exhibition `New Art West Midlands’, residencies, and events, working in partnership with the visual arts community, and organisations.  I was also the Specialist Visual Arts Adviser for Cultural Enterprise Office (Scotland), and Project Manager for NHS Lothian Art Collection.   Recent individual projects include an exhibition in 2017 for the Edinburgh Festival, and as Co-curator, setting up an Artist-in-Residence programme with Coventry Cathedral.
